Samuel's Baptism

The final Saturday in June was the scheduled stake baptism in our area. Two other children from Sam's primary class (Joshua and Janice) were also baptized which, with all our families and friends, made for a large group. I was asked to give the opening prayer and we had Grandma lead the music. Before the program, Mark and Samuel changed into their white jumpsuits for the ordinance.

Someone from the stake primary read a spotlight on each child. Here was Samuel's:

How many siblings do you have? Three brothers
What do you want to be when you grow up? A scientist
What is your favorite scripture story? Daniel in the lion's den
What is your favorite primary song or hymn? Praise to the Man
What is your favorite thing to do on a sunny day? Play soccer with Isaac
What is your least favorite thing to do? Work
What are your hobbies? Playing wii, looking in my microscope, swimming
Special summary: Samuel is not only a map lover, but an excellent navigator. On road trips, at the zoo, wherever there is a map he will be the one helping the family find our way. AND he sleeps with literally a pile of books on his bed each night!

Grandpa and our friend Brother Corpron were the official witnesses. When Samuel was baptized, just up from being immersed, David yelled out "He's all wet!" in amused excitement. Made us (reverently) chuckle.

The ordinances of baptism and confirmation are a way for us to show that we are willing to take the name of Jesus Christ upon us, which means to become Christians and do our best to always live accordingly. If you want to know more about LDS baptism, I invite you to read the post linked in the blog header tabs.


So that all our Nampa family wouldn't feel obligated to drive back up to our ward the next morning, Samuel was confirmed (also by Mark) following the baptism. Spencer was in town from Rexburg but did not get in my picture. Same with Brother Parks, our home teacher who participated but didn't join us for dinner afterwards.

We are proud of Samuel's growing maturity and his choice to follow Jesus' example and be baptized. We know that he is a strength and a blessing in our lives (even though he was a pill about pictures).
