Whatcha Do When You're Two

Two! This age (between 18 months and two and a half) has always been my favorite and with David that definitely held true. It is so amazingly fun to watch a child's personality develop and be expressed!!

David loves our Space Shuttle toys (and pictures of them in books) and will often do a count-down to launch, "Nine, nine, nine, two, krrrrsssshhhhhhh" He races matchbox cars, pretends to spin Sam's Beyblades, and flies little airplanes all over the house. He also loves putting together puzzles and pretending to be a superhero (wearing one of his big brother's old capes and flying to the rescue). He "reads" the Usborne That's Not My... (Tractor, Puppy, Dragon, etc.) books to himself, and likes us to read Fish Kisses before bed. It is obvious he benefits from having three older brothers to observe and play with, as well as enjoying their hand-me-downs. And he imitates a lot of his father's mannerisms (including some annoying ones)!
During our Yellowstone vacation, there was no stroller rides for this kid! He did get held when we wanted to go faster or stick together, but he was very willing and even desirous to hike and climb on his own. He loves being outside, even on the coldest days this winter. He was brave like Charlie in the pool this summer, too.
David is our "boyest" boy yet! He loves the planes, trains, trucks, tractors and tools like the others have plus he is obsessed with balls. He has a really good arm for his age and an amazing left kick just like Isaac. He ADORES the Elmo book all about balls that he received for his birthday.
Here is some video I took a couple months ago but never posted: David playing basketball ("hoop ball") any way he can.
I mentioned on his birthday that he has few words, but his vocabulary has really been exploding. We counted about 40 words the week he turned two, but 50 by the next day and exponentially ever since. Some things have gone from "David short-hand" to the real term pretty quickly. As in calling a baseball a "bat ball" to actually saying "baseball" and going from "goal" to "soccerrr" with a really hard r. He has finally started saying "Isaac"... Well, his version of the family nickname, anyway. He calls him "Hiyay" unless he is repeating after someone (like during a prayer), and then he says "Sickk" with a really hard k. I am usually "Mum mum" and Charlie is "Chawlie" Sometime a few months back, he started occasionally taking his nap in my bed. This has progressed to wanting to start out the night in our bed, too. Now every day is a discussion on "Mum's bed" or "Dabid's bed". Usually he starts in the former and requests the latter when he is actually ready to fall asleep (after stories or some snuggles). David is a sweetheart who wants to kiss each one of us goodnight and a kiss goodbye for Daddy each morning.

He loves dance music (Katy Perry's Firework) and the Primary song Nephi's Courage, which he calls "Mand" (the song is about following commandments). He knows the names of all the trains of "Thomas and Fwends" (although he confuses Thomas and Top'm Hat). He enjoys watching the Scholastic video Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom whenever he can, but will happily watch Backyardigans or whatever with Charlie, too.
His favorite foods are any yogurt and buttered toast and chocolate milk (which is actually Dark Chocolate Pure Almond milk by Silk). He is polite and always says "sanks" after receiving what he's asked for or having been helped. He is clearly very smart, but I like to tell him like Aibileen told Mae Mobley (in The Help). Last night after I told him he was important he said, "Yes. Mm hmm. Dabid is impotant." Hee hee.
