Basketball Season
Isaac participated in Upwards league basketball again this winter, and he really improved! This year his team, the Flash, had three other friends from our ward on it: Hyrum, Gage, and AJ. That made rides to practices easier, as well as making the whole season more fun!
This year they added a venue/practice location in Payette in addition to the one used last year in Ontario. At both places they provided a tunnel and smoke machine as they introduced each player before the game - with the other new twist of adding cheerleaders!
The other thing Upwards always does before the game begins is have a word of prayer with the official. Upwards is a Christian sports organization that makes, I feel, a well conceived effort to provide spiritual as well as basketball lessons every week. The kids learn about teamwork and good sportsmanship with a side of Christ-like love.
The season had some personal difficulty for Isaac in that he got very sick and missed a few practices, a couple of games, and the end-of-season pizza party because of it. He was always excited to be there and to do his best whenever he could, and earned he several white stars (for Christlike behavior) from his team. Sam got into the games with his trademark intensity this year, and kept close score for everyone (the officials don't keep score for this age group).
Isaac didn't put up a lot of points for the team, but he made a HUGE difference on defense.
But it wasn't only D. Isaac fought for rebounds, passed for assists, and made a basket or two of his own to be proud of.
We had a great time as a family cheering for our enthusiastic little baller!
