The Glory Hole

Due to record precipitation here & above us in the mountains this winter, the Owyhee Dam needs to let more water through to prevent major flooding later in the spring. For FHE, we decided to check out the very high river, the dam, and the "Glory Hole" where the reservoir water is let out. Because of soccer practice until 7, we got there pretty much at sunset.

You can see here how high the river is, judging by the tree line. The bridge across to a campground is washed out. You can also see the billowing mist from all the water jettisoning out from the dam.

The Glory Hole is several yards behind the dam wall. It was pretty amazing, like a "black hole" of water. We made nervous jokes about throwing a brother in the lake.

We explored and discussed as the light waned and the wind picked up. Below is the view back down the river, and Charlie as I chased him around.

It was a quick, late trip (getting home way past bedtime) but so worth it to admire the awesome power of both God and man.
