Each morning the week of Easter, we read how Jesus Christ spent his days. We used the Bible verses suggested in an article in the Friend magazine. We watched a Veggie Tales special on Easter. And of course we colored eggs... just for fun.
Turns out I'm the only one who likes to eat hard boiled eggs, so good thing I didn't prepare a whole dozen. We also made a symbolic treat the kids did enjoy eating (Easter rolls). And Saturday morning we went to the community Easter Egg Hunt...
We got there literally the moment it began so the grounds were picked clean by the time Charlie made it on the scene. No worries though, kindly volunteers gave him plenty of treats and there was a FIRETRUCK!!
Sunday morning the boys received a basket of treats which included the movie "Babe" on blu-ray (goodbye VHS version). After church we went to Mark's parent's home for a lovely ham dinner with them and his sister Val's family. One of the missionaries that lives there offered to be the photographer for our family portraits - and they actually turned out pretty good!
After dinner the kids went out back to the treehouse, despite the impending storm.
When the wind finally whipped us all back inside, we sang Easter hymns around Linda's piano. In my mind, the perfect Easter week would have a lot more caroling and service and parties and community events and times of quiet reflection and generally be a lot more like Christmas. In this imperfect world, our efforts to celebrate and remember our Savior's sacrifice were in the main thoughtful and filled with joy and I suppose that's what really matters.
